<strong>Job Description<br><br></strong>As a Developer Advocate / Community Manager – Cloud & MySQL, you will champion the needs of developers and users leveraging MySQL solutions. You’ll build vibrant technical communities, create useful content, and represent developer interests internally. You’ll work closely with engineering, product, and marketing to enable the next generation of cloud-native MySQL users and drive product adoption. In addition, you will serve as a technical architect and ecosystem leader, helping shape the MySQL Community Edition roadmap and strengthening open-source contribution workflows in partnership with MySQL engineering.<br><br><strong>Responsibilities<br><br></strong><strong>Community Engagement:<br><br></strong><ul><li>Foster and grow active user and developer communities around on-premise & cloud-based MySQL solutions (e.g., Oracle MySQL Database Service).</li><li>Respond to technical questions, collect feedback, and resolve issues through forums, social media, GitHub, Stack Overflow, and other channels.<br><br><br></li></ul><strong>Technical Advocacy:<br><br></strong><ul><li>Develop high-quality technical content (blog posts, video tutorials, sample apps) centered on MySQL in cloud architectures (scalability, security, best practices).</li><li>Speak at virtual and in-person conferences, webinars, and meetups on topics such as cloud-native data management, MySQL performance, and database migrations.</li><li>Advocate for cloud and MySQL users by synthesizing feedback and working with product teams to influence the product roadmap.</li><li>Collect and synthesize technical requirements from large users and ecosystem partners to help define the MySQL Community Edition roadmap (3–5 year horizon).</li><li>Demonstrate new MySQL features and releases through reference architectures, deep-dive technical sessions, and real-world use cases for enterprise and community audiences.</li><li>Serve as a technical “bridge” between community/users and MySQL engineering—translating field feedback into actionable product/engineering input and validating feasibility and impact.<br><br><br></li></ul><strong>Program & Community Development:<br><br></strong><ul><li>Organize hackathons, workshops, and cloud sessions focusing on modern MySQL database use cases.</li><li>Develop and maintain community resources, such as getting started guides, FAQs, migration playbooks, and architectural best practices.</li><li>Lead, manage and grow advocacy programs (such as MySQL ACE and Rockstars).</li><li>Drive technical community contribution programs by identifying, encouraging, and mentoring high-quality external contributions (bug fixes, patches, features) aligned with product direction.</li><li>Partner with engineering to expand open-source participation while maintaining technical quality (e.g., defining contribution standards, review expectations, and acceptance criteria). <br><br><br></li></ul><strong>Internal Collaboration:<br><br></strong><ul><li>Work with engineering, product management, and marketing teams to advocate for developer needs and promote new features relevant to the MySQL cloud ecosystem.</li><li>Ensure documentation and content materials are accurate and up to date.</li><li>Drive MySQL’s GitHub organization processes and structure (e.g., contribution workflows, issue/PR triage, templates, labeling, governance mechanics) in alignment with internal engineering practices.</li><li>Work closely with MySQL engineering, sales, and partner teams to support adoption efforts with technically credible guidance (architecture patterns, deployment considerations, performance and reliability best practices).<br><br><br></li></ul><strong>Metrics & Reporting:<br><br></strong><ul><li>Track, measure, and report on community health, engagement, and adoption metrics.</li><li>Track and report technical ecosystem signals such as contribution volume/quality, PR throughput, issue trends, and community-driven roadmap inputs.<br><br><br></li></ul><strong>Qualifications<br><br></strong><ul><li>8-10 years working with MySQL and cloud platforms (preferably Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, AWS, Azure, &/or Google Cloud) and relational databases (preferably MySQL).</li><li>Strong technical writing and public speaking skills demonstrated through blog posts, tutorials, conference talks, or webinars.</li><li>Hands-on experience architecting, deploying, or managing MySQL in cloud environments.</li><li>Experience cultivating online communities and responding to developer/user queries.</li><li>Proficiency in English; additional languages a plus.</li><li>Demonstrated ability to influence technical direction across stakeholders (engineering/product/community) and operate effectively as a technical leader without direct authority.</li><li>Experience working with open-source development workflows (GitHub-based contribution model, PR reviews, issue triage, release/change communication). <br><br><br></li></ul><strong>Preferred Qualifications<br><br></strong><ul><li>Experience managing or contributing to open source projects related to data or cloud technologies.</li><li>Familiarity with DBA skills, DevOps practices and data migration/integration tools.</li><li>Experience with other data technologies (NoSQL, analytics stacks, etc.) and complimentary technologies (Java, JavaScript, Python, Linux, Spring, Helidon, Cloud Native technologies.</li><li>Experience with AI/ML, LLMs.</li><li>Passion for teaching and technical enablement.</li><li>Established credibility in the MySQL ecosystem (e.g., known community participant, speaker, author, maintainer/contributor, or recognized practitioner in enterprise MySQL deployments).<br><br><br></li></ul><strong>Qualifications<br><br></strong>Disclaimer:<br><br><strong>Certain U.S. based or U.S. customer or client-facing roles may be required to comply with applicable requirements, such as immunization/occupational health mandates, and/or drug testing requirements.<br><br></strong><strong>Range and benefit information provided in this posting are specific to the stated locations only<br><br></strong>US: Hiring Range in USD from: $96,800 - $306,400 per year.
