UI/UX Designer

Blackberg Group seeks a talented UI/UX Designer to create innovative and user-centric digital experiences for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The ideal candidate is a creative thinker with a strong design background, excellent collaboration skills, and a passion for improving user experiences. This role involves designing user interfaces that are not only visually compelling but also highly functional and accessible. The successful candidate will work closely with the Blackberg Web Lead and Communications Service Line to deliver intuitive and responsive designs that meet the needs of our clients and users.<br><br>⁠⁠Core Responsibilities<br><br><ul><li>Create engaging and intuitive user interfaces for websites, web applications, and mobile platforms using tools such as Figma or Adobe XD.</li><li>Develop low-fidelity wireframes and high-fidelity prototypes for usability testing and stakeholder presentations.</li><li>Conduct user research and usability testing to identify user pain points and gather feedback to inform design decisions.</li><li>Maintain and expand upon existing design systems, ensuring consistency across all touchpoints and alignment with brand guidelines (e.g., USWDS for government projects).</li><li>Work closely with developers, product managers, and stakeholders to translate requirements into user-friendly designs.</li><li>Continuously refine designs based on user feedback, analytics, and emerging industry trends.</li><li>Design with accessibility in mind, adhering to WCAG 2.1 and Section 508 standards.</li><li>Ensure cohesive branding through the effective use of typography, color theory, iconography, and visual hierarchy.</li><li>Actively participate in agile scrum teams, contributing to backlog refinement, sprint planning, and design reviews.<br><br></li></ul><strong>⁠⁠Required Qualifications<br><br></strong><ul><li>4–6 years of professional experience in UI/UX design, preferably working on responsive web applications or government-focused projects.</li><li>Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator).</li><li>Strong understanding of user-centered design principles, including usability, accessibility, and responsive design.</li><li>Experience in creating and maintaining design systems and component libraries.</li><li>Working knowledge of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) to effectively communicate with developers (coding skills not required).</li><li>Demonstrated ability to conduct user research, synthesize data, and apply findings to improve design outcomes.</li><li>Familiarity with WCAG, Section 508, and best practices in web accessibility.</li><li>Experience with interactive prototyping tools (e.g., Figma or Axure).</li><li>A portfolio showcasing responsive design, interactive prototypes, and user flows.</li><li>Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to present design concepts to stakeholders and clients effectively.</li><li>Self-motivated with a desire to stay up-to-date on UI/UX trends and advancements.</li><li>Bonus: Experience with government websites and design standards like USWDS<br><br></li></ul><strong>⁠Company Overview<br><br></strong>Blackberg Group is a Woman-Owned Small Business (WOSB) and Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) uniting strategic operations with creative marketing to uplift public service missions.
